Guest Accessibility

The Visitor Center at the University of South Carolina works to offer accessible visits that enhance your campus experience while accommodating for the varying needs of guests.

Requesting Accommodations for a Visit

You can request guest services such as a wheelchair or an ASL interpreter by selecting “Yes” on the question “Do you need to request any disability related accommodations for you or any of your guests” when registering for your visit. If possible, please make your request at least two weeks in advance of your visit to allow time for arrangements to be made.

Before Your Visit

Please request services two weeks before your visit to allow ample time for arrangements. We will make all reasonable efforts to secure requests within two weeks of a visit but cannot guarantee availability.

American Sign Language Interpreter

An ASL interpreter can be made available to guests who are deaf or hard-of-hearing. To ensure we can effectively arrange services, a minimum of seven days advance notice before your visit is required. We will make all reasonable efforts to secure requests submitted after this deadline but cannot guarantee availability. Request an ASL interpreter when registering for your visit. When registering online, select “Yes” on the question “Do you need to request any disability related accommodations for you or any of your guests” and then check the box for “ASL interpreter.”

Wheelchairs and Personal Mobility Devices

The Visitor Center has a wheelchair available for loan during your campus visit, which you can request when registering for your visit. During registration, select “Yes” on the question “Do you need to request any disability related accommodations for you or any of your guests” and then check the box for “Wheelchair.” A driver’s license or other photo ID is required and will be returned to you upon return of the wheelchair. Our Theater and Carolinian Room offer ample accessible seating for guests using personal mobility devices.

During Your Visit

We hope you find your campus experience as one that supports equal access. If there is anything we can do to assist you during your visit, please email us at visitor@mailbox.sc.edu.

Parking and Building Entrance

State-issued parking placards are required for access to accessible parking spaces. Accessible parking spaces are available in the Visitor Center parking lot, located at the intersection of Bull Street and Pendleton Street. The accessible entrance to the Visitor Center is located on the side of the building that faces the parking lot off Pendleton Street or the north side of building. Guests can enter on the ground floor and take the elevator to the first floor Visitor Center.

Service Animals

The University of South Carolina welcomes patrons and their service animals to our campus. Service animals must remain under control of their handler at all times. Pets and emotional support or comfort animals are not allowed inside UofSC buildings. However, animals and pets are allowed in outdoor spaces.

Elevator

An elevator is located in the center of the building to take visitors to the Visitor Center on the first floor and to the McKissick Museum on the second, third and fourth floors.

Restrooms

Accessible restrooms are available on the first floor of the Visitor Center. Communal restrooms are located near the lobby, and an individual restroom is located near the Theater.
