Bio:
Erynn is a second year PhD student. Her research focuses on American cultural and material history, specifically women’s clothing from the late 18th century through modernity. She is interested in how politics, the economy, and major events have impacted fashion throughout history as well as how fashion has impacted women.
Erynn often blends her skills as a seamstress with her research. She recreates extant garments to investigate historical construction techniques and to come closer to an understanding of what it felt like to wear the clothing of the past.
In 2023 Erynn worked with the DAR to create a portion of the “The American Revolutionary War in South Carolina.” exhibit. Her contribution to this exhibit included four doll size dresses that she made. Those dresses depicted what South Carolina women of varying socioeconomic statuses would have worn during the Revolutionary War.
Originally from Ninety Six, South Carolina, Erynn has worked extensively with Ninety Six National Historic site as both a volunteer reenactor and an interpretation intern.
