The Board of Social Work Examiners for South Carolina reviews applicants' credentials and licenses social workers in the state. The Board licenses three levels of social workers:

(1) licensed baccalaureate social workers (LBSW);
(2) licensed master social workers (LMSW); and
(3) licensed independent social workers (LISW-CP) and (LISW-AP).

The Board investigates complaints about social workers and disciplines them when necessary.
