Program Website

The Sloan Research Fellowships recognize outstanding early-career faculty with the creativity, research accomplishments and potential to become leaders in their fields. Eligible fields include chemistry, computer science, Earth system science, economics, mathematics, neuroscience, physics, and related fields.

Candidates must:

  • Hold a Ph.D. or equivalent degree in an eligible field.

  • Be tenure-track but not yet tenured as of September 15, 2026.

  • Hold a faculty position with a regular teaching obligation at a degree-granting institution in the United States or Canada.

  • Be nominated by a department head or other senior researcher.

The Sloan Foundation permits up to three nominees from a department in each fellowship field. Because nominations are authorized and managed at the department level, USC will not conduct a university-wide limited-submission competition for this opportunity. Interested faculty should contact their department chair or head regarding consideration for nomination. Departments are responsible for coordinating their nominees and ensuring that the sponsor’s nomination limit is not exceeded.

Limit: 3 per department

Submission Process

The Office of Corporate and Foundation Relations is available to assist USC nominees and departments with proposal development and review. Departments planning to submit a nomination are encouraged to notify the office as early as possible.
