Hello!
The USC (Columbia) Career Center will be notified of your Handshake Account Request, and we wanted to provide you with some important information about your Handshake account. Please review the section for either Incoming Students or Alumni below.
Incoming Students
While Handshake will grant you immediate access to the general Handshake platform, you may notice that some of your unique USC profile information is missing. The USC Registrar imports a data feed of all students who are fully enrolled for the upcoming term into Handshake. That data feed will sync up with the account you are requesting here and will add additional information to your profile such as your major, degree level, college, etc.
Those data feeds and updates occur as follows:
- Incoming students for Fall Semester: Added the first Monday after July 15
- Incoming students for Spring Semester: Added the first Monday after November 1
- Incoming students for Summer: Added the first Monday after April 15
After the data feed is imported, you will also gain access to USC-specific jobs (including part-time, on-campus and work study positions), Career Center events, career fairs, etc.
Please be certain to log in again after the appropriate above referenced date to access these important resources which are tailored specifically for USC-Columbia students. Also, at that time, you will be able to request appointments with our Career Center Career Development Coaches who can’t wait to meet you! (Please note: these staff are distinctly different from your Academic Advisor. Career Development Coaches focus on the important decisions and preparation steps that are a part of your career journey versus the courses that you need to take toward attainment of your degree.)
Alumni
Handshake will grant you immediate access to the general Handshake platform. However, access to USC-specific jobs, events, and career fairs, as well as the ability to request appointments with our Alumni Career Development Coaches, may not be available immediately.
- If you graduated before May of 2016, we will review your request to access USC-specific content. Please allow up to 72 hours for us to process your request.
- If you graduated after May of 2016, you should already have a USC-specific Handshake account. The Handshake account request you submit should sync up with your existing USC account and update your @email.sc.edu email address to your personal email address, if provided. (Note: This may take up to 1 week until new merging workflows are completely built out.)
