Presenters
Lisa Baker Reece, MSW, LCSW, is an adjunct instructor for the USC College of Social Work. Near the completion of a Ph.D. in social work at Tulane University, she has worked extensively with disaster survivors in Louisiana, Kentucky, Tennessee, and Michigan. She has conducted research with survivors of major disasters in Tennessee, Kentucky, and Texas. She is currently co-primary investigator of a training grant awarded to the USC Arnold School of Public Health, the Community Disaster Response Services Training Initiative, funded by DHEC and the SC Department of Mental Health. She has served as a trainer on disaster topics for 7 years.
George W. Appenzeller, LISW-AP and CP, LPC, is the CEO of System Wide Solutions, Inc., a macro social work organization with offices in Columbia, SC and Sudbury VT. He is a graduate of the USC College of Social Work and worked in South Carolina state government for 25 years. During his military service, he worked in intelligence and operations, specializing in domestic terrorism issues. Currently he is working with Rutgers University on a CDC-funded grant investigating citizens’ understanding of the health effects of biological and chemical contamination and attack. He has also been involved in research on Gulf War Syndrome and was a PTSD counselor for combat veterans with the VA.
Sarah L. Meadows, MSW, LISW-AP, is an experienced caseworker, manager, trainer, training director, researcher and organizational consultant. She is a Certified Social Work Manager (CSWM) by the National Network for Social Work Managers. She has conducted qualitative research for Rutgers University in the areas of unexplained illness and health perceptions and has conducted training for SC DHEC staff and others on Health Risk Communication and Working in Teams. She is co-owner of System Wide Solutions, Inc., a private consulting company in Columbia, South Carolina where she does organizational consulting, conducts qualitative research and facilitates training for human service professionals.
