GHANA 2001
University of South Carolina credit for undergraduates (Social Work 306) and graduate students (Social Work 757) available. Professionals will be able to earn 5 Continuing Education Units (CEU’s) or 50 contact hours.
The College's study-abroad program began in 1986, with a trip to Mexico. Since then, the College has sponsored overseas study for social work students and practitioners every year except 1993, when a course in Egypt had to be canceled because of incidents of violence against tourists. Over 600 social workers, students and their friends and family have participated in the program.
The courses have always included graduate and undergraduate students from the University of South Carolina and other U.S. colleges and universities, faculty members from various universities, and social work practitioners. University credit is given by USC as well as continuing education units and contact hours recognized by the social work licensing board. Some universities and colleges also give credit for participation in the courses. Several hundred social workers and students have participated in these international courses over the years.
These trips provide students and practitioners the opportunity to learn about social work and human services in other countries. They include visits to agencies and lectures by social work professors and agency officials. The trips also enable participants to learn about another culture through visits to historic sites, museums, churches, and cultural events.
The cost will be approximately $2,699.00. This will include international airfare, ground transportation hotel accommodations, breakfast, lunches and dinner as stated in itinerary, historic and preferred tours, and visits.
The
proposed itinerary will capture the essence and richness of Ghana and include
visits to Accra, Cape Cost, Kumasi and surrounding areas. In addition to
visiting Ghana’s major Universities and meeting with select faculty and
administrators, tours will include but are not limited to National Museums,
the W.E.B. Dubois center, Cape Coast and Elmina Castles, Ashanti Crafts
village, Aburi Botanical Gardens, Lake Bosomture, and surrounding villages.
