Master of Social Work Admissions

We are pleased that you are interested in the Master of Social Work program. In order to be considered for admission, applicants must meet admission requirements and criteria for both the Graduate School and the College of Social Work. We begin accepting applications in the fall of each year.

Please note: We do not grant social work course credit for life experience or previous work experience.

MSW Application Deadlines

Applicants with a strong interest in our program are encouraged to meet the priority deadline.

Advanced Standing Application Deadlines:

  • December 1 - Priority deadline 
    • Application must be complete, including all supplemental documents by January 10.
  • February 1 - Final deadline 
    • Application must be complete, including all supplemental documents by March 1.

Applicants must have completed a BSW degree within the last six years from a CSWE-accredited program.

Note: Classes begin summer term.

Full-time Application Deadlines:

  • February 10 - Priority deadline 
    • Application must be complete, including all supplemental documents by February 25.
  • March 1 - Final deadline 
    • Application must be complete, including all supplemental documents by March 31.

Note: Classes begin fall term.

Part-time Application Deadlines (includes extended campuses Greenville & Charleston):

  • February 10 - Priority deadline 
    • Application must be complete, including all supplemental documents by February 25.
  • March 1 - Final deadline 
    • Application must be complete, including all supplemental documents by March 31.

Application Requirements

  1. Submit Graduate School application here
    • Application fee of $50
    • Autobiographical statement
    • Current resume which outlines education, work, and volunteer activities

Supplemental Documents

  1. All official post-secondary transcripts
    • If you have not graduated, you must submit an official transcript with all grades posted through the semester prior to the application deadline
  2. Two letters of recommendation from individuals such as professors, employers or supervisors who can provide a detailed assessment of the applicant’s specific qualifications for both graduate studies and the field of Social Work
  3. TOEFL or IELTS scores for international applicants whose native language is not English
  4. Applicants whose cumulative undergraduate GPA (from bachelor's degree institution) is below 3.0 must submit official GRE scores. (The GRE is NOT required of applicants who have earned a master’s degree from an accredited institution)
