USC Faculty Involved in Project: Cheri Shapiro, Principal Investigator

Funder: Quality Improvement Center on Early Childhood

Project Summary: The goal of this federally-funded initiative is to strengthen families of very young children with developmental disabilities through promotion of protective factors at the family and community level. Two separate randomized controlled trials are being conducted; both are examining the efficacy of an evidence-based parenting program (Stepping Stones Triple P or SSTP) with parents of children in IDEA Part C who are under age two. One of these studies is also examining the potential impact of adding a workforce enhancement curriculum (PCAN) to IDEA Service Coordinator training to help professionals use their relationships with families to reduce risk of maltreatment.

Focus Area: Strengthening Family Systems
